One Charming Party

January 31, 2011

I had a chance to assist One Charming Party on a Valentine’s Day photo shoot. They had adorable ideas for a great classroom party. So, if you are helping out in your kid’s classroom take a look! They also have a cute circus party up right now.

Bountiful Basket

January 29, 2011

Today we participated in the Bountiful Basket program. It was amazing! So for $15 we got a bunch of fruits and vegetables and for $10 we got 5 loaves of 9-grain bread which is absolutely delicious. Here is what we got:

3 Red Pummelos

1 Cantalope

2 Bunches of Bananas

1 carton Strawberries

6 Oranges

4 Green Apples

2 Zucchini

6 Roma Tomatoes

1 Head Lettuce

1 Head Broccoli

1 Head Cauliflower

2 Heads Asparagus

Not too bad! I was planning on buying strawberries later today but now I don’t have to. Those alone would be about $5 at the grocery store. They’ve said that the Bountiful Basket is about $50-60 worth of produce, which makes $15 seem like a fantastic deal. If anyone has recipe ideas for any of our delicious fruits and veggies let me know!

I think we’re planning on doing a broccoli cheese soup and maybe a cauliflower soup as well. The asparagus is about the only thing I’m not quite sure what to do with. I think we’ll have BLTs today for lunch and we’ll probably try the red pummelos with breakfast/lunch today.

Anyway, to say the least we were really excited for all of the fruits and veggies at such a great price!

Strawberry Sherbet

This is a little early considering summer is quite a few months away, but I’ve been thinking about frozen treats lately. One of my favorites is Strawberry Sherbet. There are some good recipes out there, but since I don’t have an ice cream freezer I resort to the store bought kind. It is delicious with fresh strawberries though if you can find good ones right now!

A Little Tea Party

My latest assignment was “hat” based on The Hat Book by Rodney Smith. After brainstorming for a while I happened upon the idea of portraying what kind of food would be eaten by someone wearing a particular hat. Naturally I wanted to use my gorgeous Paris hat which always makes me think of a tea party or some delicate, elegant luncheon. So… here is a little tea party. I hope to continue on with this idea at some point and use a wide variety of hats and foods.

Creamy Tomato Sauce

This sauce is about as addicting as chocolate. Seriously. I can’t help tasting it off and on while it cooks. I’ve tried a few recipes from The Pioneer Woman but this is by far my favorite (at least up to this point).

So if you are looking for a deliciously sweet red sauce for pasta, this is the one to try. It’s pretty easy, doesn’t have any unusual ingredients (although I don’t usually have whipping cream stocked in my fridge). I love adding plenty of Parmesan cheese and a little bit of fresh parsley or basil for color. Delicious!

A few things…

Chocolate Creme Brulee

January 8, 2011

It’s been a long time since my last post. Way too long. This holiday was wonderful but very busy. I’m getting back in to school for my final semester. Yay! I’m actually a little sad too. This semester is going to be awesome though!

My latest exploration in chocolate is Creme Brulee. For my birthday my mom gave me “Chocolate Never Faileth” a recipe book by Annette Lyon. Take a look at it for lots of great chocolate recipes!

I used her recipe and considering this is my first time ever making creme brulee I would have to say it turned out pretty good. It was really easy to do, but like she forewarned… it does take a long time. Not a quick fix like I initially thought.
