You may recall my friend Cassidy Budge who is in the wedding cake business. It’s been a while since I posted any pictures of her wedding cakes so I thought I’d share with you one of her most recent, and my personal favorite chocolate cake.
While most wedding cake designs lately seem to be somewhat similar, this cake really stands out. I’m always a fan of chocolate wedding cakes (since I love chocolate more than just about anything) so this one definitely had something going for it there. But, the thing that makes this chocolate cake so unique is that it’s a “naked cake”. While I had seen naked cakes before I hadn’t heard the term. Basically it refers to a cake whose layers are exposed. There isn’t an outer layer of frosting or fondant.
Cassidy is a pro at baking and designing cakes so it’s no surprise this one turned out to be so amazing! I love the contrast between the chocolate cake layers and the raspberry buttercream filling. The colors are so vibrant and striking. The flowers and berries add to the whimsy of the cake too. It feels so fresh and fun.
This also happens to be one of the biggest cakes Cassidy has made. It can feed about 200 people! Baking each of the individual layers was no small task either. With 12 separate layers I’m sure you can imagine it took a little bit of time to put together. If you are looking for wedding cake designs or if you’re simply looking for cake ideas for an event, Cassidy has so many unique cakes on her site! Be sure to stop by and take a look! From simple cakes to more elabroate, she has quite a bit of eye candy. And, if you’re in the area you can hire her the next time you need a cake! She is seriously amazing and you won’t be disappointed!
